Role and responsibilities

Supervised by the R&D Director, and working in a small team of 3, you will be responsible for the design, development, testing, validation and maintenance of medical instruments. Your work will involve the following tasks:

  • Invent new medical instruments based on a folder of design inputs and/or specifications,
  • Create prototypes and manage their manufacture,
  • Lead or participate in development, verification and validation trials,
  • Inspect the mechanical plans for these instruments,
  • Calculate the strength of materials and perform mechanical simulation,
  • Create technical and regulatory documentation,
  • Choose appropriate manufacturing methods,
  • Specify and produce planning and inspection sheets,
  • Monitor the definition, introduction and optimisation of the production processes and tools,
  • Organise and track the manufacturing phases handled by sub-contractors,
  • Present the developed products to the company's clients.

Role profile and skills

Trained as an engineer, or equivalent with a 5-year higher education diploma, you have gained at least 2 years’ initial experience in designing medical instruments. You have utilised injection-moulded plastic parts, and you are familiar with the standard machining processes (milling, digitally-controlled turning, etc.). Ideally, you have experience of operating-room practices through working directly with surgeons. Knowledge of standards relating to medical devices (MD), for example ISO 13485 or Directive 93/42/EC, would be a real advantage for this post. Lastly, you are proficient in English and in the use of a CAD software package (preferably Solidworks), and you are known for your rigour, versatility, autonomy and people skills. Gross annual salary: depending on experience.

As an integral member of a multi-discipline development team, you will contribute to designing innovative products in surgical robotics and navigation. Under the responsibility of the Technical Manager, you will report directly to a software project manager. You will be responsible for developing robotically controlled software for surgical applications. For this, your work will involve close collaboration not only with your fellow software developers but also with the teams developing robotic, mechanical, and electronic innovations, and with the quality teams. Role and responsibilities

Working in the Upstream Marketing tram, you will be responsible for programmes aimed at developing new clinical orthopaedic applications on our surgical platform. Working closely with the R&D and Design, Quality and Regulatory Affairs teams, plus the teams on the ground, you will be the product leader at the interface between surgeons and our in-house teams, steering the activity of a cross-functional team.

You will have the following main duties:

  • Upstream of the D&D phase, you will take the lead in establishing users’ needs, evaluate solutions aimed at meeting these needs, and specify the requirements and the product features:
    • Take ownership of the context and the clinical issues,
    • Familiarity with the latest industry developments and the competition,
    • Gathering information from users about their needs,
    • Exploring solutions, developing proofs of concept, evaluating with user participation,
    • Writing the input documents for the D&D phase (Use case, User Needs, Design inputs).
  • During the D&D phase you are the product reference expert, representing users when interacting with the development teams. You will take part in preparing the following:
    • Risk analysis,

  • At the end of the D&D phase, you will lead the preparations for market release, namely:
    • Preparing pilot clinical sites, including staff training,

You are a fast learner, able to immerse yourself in technical and regulatory documents covering a variety of domains (e.g. electricity, mechanics, software) and related literature (standards, articles). You are conversant with the regulations around medical devices (21 CFR 820, ISO 13485). You are highly skilled in managing medical device development projects, and in creating and managing technical files (risk management, usability, user requirements, etc.). Role and responsibilities

As an integral member of a multi-discipline team, you will contribute to developing innovative products in surgical robotics and navigation by bringing in your knowledge of the regulations on marketing medical devices (MD). Under the direct responsibility of our Quality and Regulatory Affairs Manager, your main duties will be:

  • Defining and setting up the regulatory strategy for product marketing,
  • Preparing regulatory and accreditation files, especially for the USA (510k, PMA) and Europe (CE marking), with support from the project quality engineers,
  • Reviewing the DHF components of the products (particularly verification and validation files, risk management files, usability engineering files and process validation reports), to ensure that they are commensurate with the regulations in force in the target markets and to integrate them into the regulatory files,
  • Monitoring the MD marketing files, particularly for outlets in the USA and Europe, and be the point of contact with the authorities responsible for examining them (e.g. FDA, notified body, etc.) until regulatory approval is received,
  • Conducting regulatory watch for the company’s various product development projects.

Role profile and skills

You have an engineering qualification (or hold an equivalent 5-year higher education diploma) and at least 5 years’ experience in regulatory affairs in the industry of medical devices destined for surgical use, ideally programmable electro-medical devices. It is essential that you are fully familiar with North American regulations (FDA) and have worked on a 510(k) dossier at least once. You are thoroughly familiar with the standardisation environment for developing complex medical devices featuring both hardware and software: system standards and regulations (21 CFR 820, ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 62366-1, etc.) and some technical standards (IEC 60601-1, IEC 62304, ISO 10993, etc.). An excellent command of English is indispensable (written and spoken, C1 level).

As an integral member of a multi-discipline development team in a new BU, you will play a central technical role in designing, validating and marketing innovative products in surgical robotics and navigation. Under the direct responsibility of our Technical Manager, your main duties will be:

  • Defining user needs and product usage scenarios, by participating in technical meetings with the surgeons involved in design, and by helping to collect client feedback on the products being developed,
  • Translating user needs into product requirements, and in turn into the technical specifications of the system, while ensuring that each element can be tested, and managing the life cycle,
  • Defining the hardware/software architecture of the system and the interfaces between different subsystems, and contributing to their functional specification,

A qualified engineer or holder of a 5-year (minimum) higher education diploma in a technical discipline (computing, mechanical, electronics), you have at least 5 years’ experience as a system engineer in the domain of high-tech product development, ideally in the medical device industry.

The Application Engineer (AE) is responsible for technical demonstrations, user team training, installation and basic on-site maintenance of the installed base of innovative complex medical systems. Planning the system installation with the client:

  • In a team, helping to define the architectures of company products,
  • Writing the system specifications,
  • Designing the embedded system to meet specific needs,
  • Integrating off-the-shelf components,
  • Actively participating in the verification and validation phase,
  • Compiling the technical file with a view to CE and FDA marking, within the regulatory and standards-based constraints on the components and the system.
  • Managing subcontractors, interacting with suppliers and manufacturers,
  • Supporting the production and industrialisation teams in the launch phase and through the series’ life,
  • Conducting technology watch.

You will progress in terms of genuine technical expertise or project management activities as you accompany the company’s growth.

Role profile and skills

Holder of a higher education diploma (min. 5 years) from an Engineering School or University, with a strong emphasis on Electronics and Industrial Computing, you have at least 5 years of solid professional experience, including work in a constrained regulatory environment (medical, aerospace, rail transport, finance, etc.). You are familiar with the main principles of system engineering and its industrial applications, and are skilled in the specification and characterisation of complex systems (combining the integration of multiple hardware and software sub-assemblies).

Ideally, you have skills in most of the following domains (listed in decreasing order of importance):

  • Analogue & digital electronics,
  • Low-level programming of an ARM architecture,
  • C programming in an RTOS environment,
  • Designing an analogue/digital interface for sensors/actuators,
  • Communication protocols (CAN Open, RS232…).
  • Power electronics,
  • Knowledge of motorised control (torque, speed and position),
  • Knowledge of wireless communication (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth…),
  • Familiarity with operating security,
  • EMC qualification of circuit boards and/or electrical systems,
  • Circuit board design.

You are interested in medical software applications, and in developing complex, innovative systems that must meet the needs of demanding users in a rigorous international regulatory and quality environment. Lastly, you have a very good level of English.
